Madvillainy Review

An Album By MF Doom and Madlib

MF Doom is, in my opinion, one of the best and most underrated rappers ever.  He is an amazing rhymer and lyricist and how he structures his bars and verses is very unique and brilliant.  He is comical and cartoonish, but it adds to his song and his alter ego that he uses for his music.  Madvillainy is his best work as an MC.

MF Doom’s voice and flow are addictive in this album, especially due to how short and sweet all the songs are.  After you hear each rhyme, each play of words that he spits through the mic, you want more.  MF Doom is great at keeping you entertained and your mouth is kept open while you hear him due to how he uses his rhymes in such a playful and masterminded way.

This album, to me, sort of sounds like a “rap comic book.”  The vocal samples that sound super old school, and the cartoonish beats and Doom’s great lyricism and his maniacal alter ego are all contributors to why this album sounds like an auditory comic book.

Some of the best beats on this album are on songs like Accordian, Sickfit (Instrumental), Rainbows, Hardcore Hustle, Fancy Clown, and Rhinestone Cowboy.

The producer of these beats, Madlib, is just as weird as Doom, and that’s what makes this duo so amazing.  He makes beats that fit just right for MF Doom, and his solo instrumentals are some of the best beats I have ever heard.  His use of wacky drums and kicks, and his unique pick of samples add extra flavors to the album that make it even better than it is.  Madlib’s beats on this album are very important to it, and they make MF Doom sound even better as an MC.

Madvillainy is a rap album that everyone should listen to at least once, especially those people that love hip-hop.  Anyone can appreciate this album and how great it sounds.  I’d even recommend this album to people that don’t like rap because of how good it is.

Album Grade:  9.8/10
