Saturation 2 Review

An Album by BROCKHAMPTON

Yes, Brockhampton has released yet another amazing album this year.  Literally 2 and a half months ago they came out with Saturation, and now there’s Saturation 2, and number 3 is coming out before the year ends.

On this album, Brockhampton is still making amazing music.  They have amazing and creative production, great chemistry, great hooks and performances from all members, the list goes on.

All of the singles are bangers.  Gummy, Swamp, Junky, and Sweet are amazing.  The videos for all these songs are also just fantastic.  Gummy and Swamp have two of the best hooks in this album, along with Sweet and Tokyo.

The sound of this album is definitely a summer sound.  The gangster, west coast rap style of production is brought onto songs like Gummy, Queer, Swamp, and Tokyo, and the rest of the songs just have a theme of summer.  This theme is mainly brought on by the smooth instrumentals, although some of them are bangers, there are a lot that are smooth.  The production is somewhat alternative and different on the songs Jello, Chick, Junky, Fight, Gamba, and Sunny.  Junky probably has the strangest beat on this album, but it sounds amazing and fits the song perfectly.

Kevin Abstract has a lot more performances and verses on this album.  The most noteworthy of them would be his verses on the songs Gummy, Jesus, which is a sort of interlude with him and Bearface, and Junky.  He goes all out with incredible flow, lyrics, and rhymes on Gummy and Junky and has a heartfelt and personal verse on Jesus.

Ameer Vann and Dom McLennon are even better than before on this album. Ameer’s best performances are seen on the songs Teeth, which is his solo interlude, Tokyo, Chick, Junky, and Sweet.  Dom is best on Swamp, Chick, and Sweet.  Matt Champion and Merlyn Wood are great with each of their verses, and I’m super glad Joba is on this album a lot more, and his verses are amazing.  Joba is very underrated.

I didn’t like how this album didn’t feel completely original, at least compared to their last album.  They have the most original sound I’ve heard in a long time, but I didn’t like how they didn’t follow a different formula from their last album.  I was hoping they would switch it up a little more with the structure of the songs.  I liked the skits, or “scenes” in this album, and the interludes were great, too.  This album was pretty incredible, but it wasn’t as mind blowing as the first Saturation.

Album Grade: 8.5/10
